Missed this one entirely from 2014. Both of these songs rip, with "Anneliese" getting the nod for its tribal bass vortex badassery and crazed vocals. Also - insanse cover. Cool shit.
Favorite track: Anneliese.
Following on from last year's critically acclaimed His Best Deceit demo, Belgian black/death cult POSSESSION return with a highly anticipated 7" EP, cryptically titled Anneliese. Fans and critics worldwide thrilled to the feral, bloodlusting violence across His Best Deceit, but here on the two-song Anneliese 7", POSSESSION boldly prove that their diabolic force extends into more haunting realms. No less hysteric, the reined-in thrust on these two tracks pounds 'n' plods into the most fucked-up dungeon mortal ears will hear. Less a statement of "heavy metal" and more a ritual of unspeakable horror, Anneliese shows that POSSESSION are just beginning to stoke the hellfires of immortality...

Great evil stuff, could be unearthed demo's from some obscure mid-eighties band from either side of the Atlantic but the paradox is an obscure band from that time could have never achieved such a level of tightness and production values ;-) These evil nasties perfectly straddle that divide between 'ancient and pure' on one side and 'crafty and listenable' on the other. Whatever way you look at it, it's stuff that makes you max your amp and bang your head in praise of timeless anti-cosmic forces Stijn Van Hees

An unbelievable intersection of talent and ambition. This is one of the most impressive records in modern death metal and the sheer scope of it is absolutely fucking mind-boggling. Certainly not for the faint of heart given that it's a triple album, but every second is just magic- and the presentation of the box set is absolutely amazing! Brandon Corsair
